Richard F. Zaccaro's Obituary
Richard "Rich" Zaccaro: A Life of Love, Laughter, and Manilow
Richard F. Zaccaro, our beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, and ultimate Fanilow passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, surrounded by the love of his wife and daughters after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. At 71 years young, Rich, a resident of Spring Hill, FL, left an indelible mark on the world with his infectious humor, unwavering love for his family, and an undying passion for all things sports.
Born on August 8, 1953, in Brooklyn, NY, Richard spent much of his life in New York. Following in his father’s footsteps, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972, proudly serving his country for 20 years. It was while in basic training with the Navy, that he discovered the music of Barry Manilow which became the soundtrack to his life. After retiring from the Navy, Rich built a successful career in insurance sales, earning a reputation as an honest and caring professional who genuinely sought to help people find financial security. Later, he transitioned to a service role at MetLife, where his dedication to combining sales expertise with exceptional customer care left a lasting impression on clients and colleagues alike. Richard lived a life of service and integrity, he was hardworking and the type of colleague and coworker that touched the lives of all that were blessed to encounter him.
In 1973, at the tender age of 19, Rich married his soulmate, Frances Calabretta Zaccaro (more affectionately known as “his limp”). Their love story was a testament to true partnership, filled with laughter, unwavering support, and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. Together, they raised their daughters in Queens, NY, before relocating to Florida, where they cherished every moment with their growing family.
As "Papa," Rich was a source of endless love and support for his seven grandchildren. He was their biggest cheerleader, never missing a game, a performance, or a recital.
A true sports enthusiast, Rich could often be found glued to the TV, cheering on the Rays, the Lightning, and the Bucs. But beyond sports, it was his family and friends who truly brought joy to Rich's life. He was a master storyteller, a good listener who made everyone feel heard and valued. His quick wit and infectious laughter filled every room he entered. He was a jokester, often professing his love for Fran in the oddest of ways and the funniest of circumstances. He spoke a language all his own which his girls learned well and enjoyed laughing at along wtih him. He adored cruising, cherished every moment with his family, and, of course, never missed an opportunity to see Barry Manilow live (over 30 times!). The music of Manilow was more than just entertainment; it was a shared passion that bound his family together.
Rich was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Fran, his beloved sister Carmella “Baby Doll,” and his older brother, Donald. He is survived by his brother and best friend, Robert (Rhonda), his adoring wife, Frances, and their children: Ann-Marie “The Riister” (John), Barbara-Ann “Double P”, Jennifer “Roon” (Bill), and Lisa “Dawoo.” He was a beloved Papa to his three granddaughters, Jordan (Robert), Kimberly, and Kaitlyn, and four grandsons, Joseph, Jacob, Cameron, and Colin.
Rich’s love, humor, and wisdom will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the laughter, humor, and memories shared by his family and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 4pm-630pm at Trinity Memorial Gardens. As a tribute to his love of sports, feel free to wear your favorite sports apparel in lieu of dress clothes.
