I can't help thinking about 2 Timothy 4:7-8 when I think about Mrs. Slavkin, she fought the good fight, she finished the race and kept the faith:
7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Marlene was my stepmom. She was a devoted companion and care giver to my dad, Milton Slavkin, who we lost in 2001. They enjoyed many years together, attending PITT football and basketball games and traveling. Marlene was one of the kindest people I had the privilege of having in my life. She never had a harsh word to say about anyone. I will always appreciate the kindness she showed to my children Ben and Simon, my sister, Diane and my nephew Joshua. Even though she hadn't seen them in years, Marlene always asked me about my cousin Gerri and her family. Marlene and I shared the same astrological sign, Leo. We used to kid around about that fact and our similar personalities. Marlene will be missed greatly, by many, especially me. May she rest in peace, while listening to my dad's corny jokes.
