Marie Thivener's Obituary
Marie “Mary” Antoinette Thivener, 92, of New Port Richey, Florida passed away on February 19, 2024, surrounded by her friends at the Canopy of Beacon Woods in Hudson, Florida. Marie was born to Antonio and Marie Colando on July 25, 1931, in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from high school, she began her career as a bank teller, which allowed her the opportunity to engage the public with her sense of humor and quirky personality. She married her beloved husband Gilbert “Gil” Thivener in 1957, and they built a family together with their two sons, Anthony and Derrick. Mary and Gil remained devoted to each other for 52 years of marriage, until his passing in 2009.
Mary enjoyed a long and active life. Following her retirement, she spent her time volunteering at Bayonet Point Hospital. She watched her soap operas religiously, particularly Guiding Light, and kept her mind sharp by completing crossword puzzles and attending weekly trivia nights with friends. She was known to fill the room with her big, sometimes willful personality, and she was never afraid to speak her mind, often with colorful language. Proud of her Sicilian roots, Mary placed a high value on her relationships with family and friends.
Mary is survived by her two sons Anthony (Stephanie) and Derrick (Rosa) Thivener. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Thivener.
