Obituary for Sol María Vergara de TcherassiSol María Vergara de Tcherassi, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born on June 30, 1943 in Barranquilla, Colombia, to the late Luis Alberto Vergara Hernandez and Magdalena Carbó de Vergara. Sol María was one of ten siblings and will be remembered with love by her sisters Nidia de Celia; Betty de Llinás; Cielo de Vázquez and her husband Edgardo Vázquez; and her brother Jorge Vergara and his wife Jenny de Vergara. She is now reunited in eternal rest with her brothers Juan Vergara, Luis Vergara, Winston Vergara, Ricardo Vergara and her sister Magola de Lozano. She was married to the late Daniel Tcherassi, and they are survived by their two daughters and sons-in-law, Ana María Tcherassi Stevens and her husband Rick Stevens, and Victoria Eugenia Tcherassi Vergara and her husband Julián Serrano. Maria was better known by her nicknames “Sol” (given by her father, as she was his “Rallito de Sol”, or “Ray of Sunshine”) and “Tati” (given by her first grandchild, Daniella Serrano, while she was learning to say “Abuelita”).Sol María’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her grandchildren Daniella Serrano and husband Marcos Rivera, and their children Adrián and Gabriel; Julián Andrés Serrano; Kristina María Stark; Jacob Alexander Stark and wife Lara Stark-Zeng; and Juan Manuel Serrano. She is also survived by her beloved step-grandchildren Kendall Lee Stevens and Tyler Dillon Stevens.A woman full of life and joy, Sol María had an insatiable wanderlust that took her from the Caribbean coast of her beloved Colombia to the mountains of Europe, often with her daughters as eager travel companions. She moved permanently to the United States in 1996, building a new life while staying deeply connected to her Colombian roots. She took a lot of pride in saying she taught her grandchildren and step-grandchildren Spanish, as well as a love for the game of Rummikub (rarely letting others win). She loved to listen to music and dance, especially to the music of fellow Barranquillera Shakira. She also loved tending to her thriving garden and sharing the fruits of her labor with her community. To relax, she loved watching soccer, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Colombian National Soccer Team, proudly showing her yellow, blue, and red whenever she could. Sol María was a devoted family member that kept her large, loving family connected across countries and continents. Always eager to stay connected with her 34 nieces and nephews, she embraced technology with determination, mastering each new messaging app and most recently triumphing WhatsApp to join the bustling family chat, where her passionate opinions about everything from Colombian politics to family gossip kept everyone entertained. She also made sure her loved ones received her daily prayers. Sol María was known for her generosity and kind heart. She never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help, regardless of the circumstances. Her legacy lives on in the love of her family and friends, who will forever cherish her memory and the countless ways she enriched their lives. A memorial service will be held starting at 1pm on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Trinity Memorial Gardens (12609 Memorial Dr, Trinity, FL 34655). Sol María Vergara de Tcherassi, querida hija, hermana, tia, esposa, madre, abuela, bisabuela, y amiga, falleció en paz el 21 de agosto de 2025 a los 82 años. Nació el 30 de junio de 1943 en Barranquilla, Colombia, hija de los ya fallecidos Luis Alberto Vergara Hernández y Magdalena Carbó de Vergara.
Sol María fue una de diez hermanos y será recordada con amor por sus hermanas Nidia de Celia; Betty de Llinás; Cielo de Vázquez y su esposo Edgardo Vázquez; y su hermano Jorge Vergara y su esposa Jenny de Vergara. Ahora se reúne en el descanso eterno con sus hermanos Juan Vergara, Luis Vergara, Winston Vergara, Ricardo Vergara y su hermana Magola de Lozano.
Estuvo casada con el ya fallecido Daniel Tcherassi, y les sobreviven sus dos hijas y yernos, Ana María Tcherassi Stevens y su esposo Rick Stevens, y Victoria Eugenia Tcherassi Vergara y su esposo Julián Serrano.
Sol María era mejor conocida por sus apodos "Sol" (dado por su padre, ya que era su "Rayito de Sol") y "Tati" (dado por su primera nieta, Daniella Serrano, mientras que aprendía a decir "Abuelita").
El mayor orgullo y alegría de su vida fueron sus nietos y bisnietos. Sol María era una mujer llena de vida y alegría con una sed insaciable de aventuras. Sus viajes la llevaron desde la costa caribeña de su querida Colombia hasta las montañas de Europa, frecuentemente acompañada por sus hijas como entusiastas compañeras de aventura. Se trasladó permanentemente a los Estados Unidos en 1996, construyendo una nueva vida mientras se mantenía profundamente conectada a sus raíces colombianas. Se enorgullecía enormemente de haberles enseñado español a sus nietos y nietos políticos. también compartió su pasión por el Rummikub (¡era una jugadora competitiva que rara vez dejaba ganar a otros!). Le encantaba escuchar música y bailar, especialmente a la música de su paisana barranquillera Shakira. También amaba cuidar su floreciente jardín y compartir los frutos de su trabajo con su comunidad. Para relajarse, le gustaba ver fútbol, y era una fanática entusiasta de la Selección Colombia, mostrando con orgullo su amarillo, azul, y rojo lo más posible.
Sol María fue un miembro devoto de la familia que mantuvo unida a su gran y amorosa familia a través de países y continentes. Siempre emocionada por mantenerse conectada con sus 34 sobrinos y sobrinas, abrazó la tecnología con determinación, dominando cada nueva aplicación de mensaje y más recientemente triunfando a WhatsApp para unirse al chat bullicioso de la familia. Sus opiniones apasionadas de la política colombiana o los chismes mantenían a todos entretenidos. También se aseguraba de que sus seres queridos recibieran sus oraciones diarias.
Sol María era conocida por su generosidad y corazón bondadoso. Nunca conoció a un extraño y siempre estaba dispuesta a tender una mano a cualquiera que necesitara ayuda, sin importar las circunstancias.
