I’m trying really hard not be sad for my mother. She had a great, long comfortable life, a husband, kids and family and friends who loved her, good health and a nice home. She was able to enjoy the best of what life has to offer.
She was always well intentioned and aware of who needed what, and if there was something that she could do to make it happen, well she was there for you!
My mother was an extremely hard worker and had the highest moral and ethical standards. She did everything and anything that needed to be done, no matter how tedious, onerous, difficult or unpleasant - and perfection was her goal! I know how hard it was to keep a family going, a full time job and go to night school - but she did it - and after years of hard work, she finally got her college degree at age 53!
My mother was a master creator! She made most of my childhood clothes, she was a great cook and she made beautiful, creative and award winning art. She loved learning new crafts and sharing what she knew with others. She was well read, educated and traveled.
A coupled years ago, when she was in her late 80’s we went on a Caribbean cruise together. Margaret and Joe would hit the gym before breakfast, and close down the disco at night! As soon as the band began to play, they were out there on the dance floor, and she was the envy of many who had lost their mobility years earlier. Who knew she could do the “YMCA” dance??!! She never missed a bingo game either.
So in summary, my mothers life would be the envy of many. Let us celebrate her! She was able to make a difference in many people’s lives, she definitely made a difference my life. Where would I be without her?
We can be sure that she is in peace and not suffering anymore. So I say thank you for everything and farewell to a great person. She will always be remembered.
