Joe passed away peacefully and pain free at the age of 79, in his home in the City of Safety Harbor, Florida on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Joe was born on December 18, 1945 in Anasco, Puerto Rico, to Miguel Angel Rivera and Violeta Aquino.
Joe's mother and father moved from Puerto Rico to New York City in 1948. He grew up in the Upper West Side of Manhattan until the family moved to Intervale Avenue in the Bronx where Joe's father owned a bodega. Joe's mother and his aunts worked as embroiderers at Paragon on Bruckner Boulevard.
Joe graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and attended one semester of college at Baruch University.
On May 31,1969, Joe married Eva and they had two children Anastasia N. Rivera and Jason C Rivera. Joe worked for The New York City Department of Sanitation, where he was a dedicated and loyal employee. from which he retired after 23 years of service.
Joe had a great passion for bowling, which he enjoyed with his wife Eva and both bowled in several leagues throughout the years and participated in out of state tournaments where Joe earned trophies and
monetary awards.
Joe was a humorous and kind guy and always made people feel comfortable. He was extremely friendly and most people were attracted to his personality which made people feel like they knew him for a long time.
Joe felt blessed and thankful for having been able to live as long as he did. Joes greatest pride was having grandchildren, as well as great grandchildren, and the joy they each brought to his life. He felt overwhelming pride in being able to be a provider for his entire family. Even at his final moments. Always feeling love towards each and everyone of them.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Joe and his love for all will be deeply missed.
