Jonathon R. Morrell's Obituary
Jonathon Roger “JR” Morrell passed peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from complications due to T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-Cell ALL) at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. JR was born on March 1, 1975 and is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa (Hrescak) and his three daughters, Maddison, Macey and Mallory. He is also survived by his brother, Chris (Kathy) Morrell, of Johnstown, PA, his niece Kate, nephew Jack and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. JR is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Roger and Marilyn Morrell and his grandparents.
JR graduated from Westmont Hilltop High School, Johnstown, PA and St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA. He married his high school sweetheart, Lisa, and settled down with his growing family in the Westmont area of Johnstown, PA.
JR spent the majority of his career at Zamias Services, Inc of Johnstown, PA as a commercial leasing agent. During his time, he travelled extensively to check on his numerous “slum” properties. In 2015, JR and Lisa moved their family to Wesley Chapel, FL in an effort to slow down life and spend more time together with their girls. They quickly grew to love Florida and were embraced by neighbors of their Estancia community, who became friends and ultimately family.
JR worked for CBRE Group in Tampa, FL since October 2015 and within two short years was the nucleus of his team. He joked about leasing the “U” in the not so desirable part of Tampa.
JR will be remembered for his quick and inappropriate humor. His biggest accomplishments were his three beautiful daughters. He was their biggest fan and quickly took on the role of cheer dad, swim dad or gymnastics dad – or any other interest his girls had. In addition to his girls, his dogs, Vern, and especially, Bruce, were constantly by JR’s side and most definitely in his heart.
Since JR’s diagnosis in October 2017, JR spent the majority of his days at Moffitt Cancer Center. During this time, he charmed everyone from the transport person to the nursing staff on 4 North. He would like to especially thank his ‘handler’, Danielle Nasello, NP and the entire hematology team. These health care professionals guided JR and his family through his challenging T-cell ALL journey. JR and his antics – and there were many – quickly made him their favorite patient. Without the dedication and caring of these individuals, his journey would not have been this long and not nearly as entertaining.
JR and Lisa had a great love for one another. It was a love that was noticed and admired. At such a young age, they chose each other and remained devoted to each other throughout his journey. Lisa remained at his bedside for days at a time to ensure that he was never alone. This great love will live on in Lisa and JR’s girls as they continue to spread his light to everyone they encounter.
In JR’s own words, he wanted the bull**** stuff, funeral services, etc. to occur in Florida and a ‘party’ in PA. So, if you would like to join his family for the bull**** stuff, his services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10am for visitation and 11am for services at Trinity Memorial Garden, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, FL 34655.
For those that wish to join his family in Pennsylvania, his celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 3-6pm at the Holiday Inn in the Dirty ‘J’, 250 Market Street, Johnstown, PA 15901.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the college fund of JR’s girls. They can be made to CB+T FBO Macey Morrell or CB+T FBO Mallory Morrell to the care of Valerie, 3916 Carrera Ct., Wesley Chapel, FL 33543.
A bright light blew out today, but it will glow in all who knew him.
