Egerton Anderson's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Egerton Cleophas Anderson
On June 25, 1939, God, the Creator of mankind, blessed this world with the life of Egerton Cleophas Anderson, born in Pomona, a small agricultural village on the Essequibo Coast of Guyana, South America. He was lovingly entrusted to the late Daniel and Clarabell Anderson and raised in a Christian home as the youngest of two children.
Affectionately known as Andy, Egerton experienced profound loss early in life—his father passed away when he was seven and his mother when he was fifteen. Despite these hardships, he persevered with strength and determination. He attended Huis’t Dieren Primary School and Schroeder High School, where he excelled in competitive sports and proudly served as Cricket Captain.
Egerton began his career as a Printing Clerk with Georgetown Printing Office before serving as a Postal Clerk with the Guyana Government from 1957 to 1961. In 1961, he enlisted in the Guyana Police Force as Constable #6721, a role he embraced with pride. He often shared that his assignment to the Mahaicony District was the best move of his career. During that time, he met the love of his life, Joy Wilma Chisholm, a Registered Nurse, and they were married on November 18, 1967.
In 1971, Egerton and Joy immigrated to the United States, settling first in Brooklyn, New York, and later relocating to Tampa, Florida, where they raised their three children—Dwayne, Derwin, and Donette. A devoted family man, Egerton deeply loved his sons and absolutely adored his daughter.
Egerton built a successful professional career with Merrill Lynch, later advancing his education at Tampa Bay Vo-Tech, where he graduated top of his class with an Associate of Arts degree in Computer Engineering. He worked as a Computer Technician with National Cash Register (NCR) for 15 years and later with British Aerospace Engineering, retiring in 2001.
A man of deep faith, Egerton was baptized at Citrus Park Baptist Church at the age of forty-nine. He faithfully served as an usher and a member of the parking ministry and ensured his family remained grounded in regular worship. In 2005, Egerton and Joy co-founded the Guyanese Cultural Network of Tampa Bay (GCNTB), an organization that reflected his commitment to community, service, and cultural connection.
Egerton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. In the later years of his life, his greatest joy was being “Papa” to his grandchildren. Egerton and Joy loved vacationing to exotic places. In November of 2025, the entire family was able to take one last trip together to five of the beautiful French Polynesian Islands (Including Bora Bora). He stated that this was truly the trip of a lifetime. Egerton Cleophas Anderson, age 86, passed away surrounded by his family on January 25, 2026, in St. Joseph’s Hospital North, in Lutz, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Elaine M. Cummings (Joseph), mother-in-law Leah Rickett, and his brother-in-law, Wilton (Kenlyn) Rickett, Corporal #6718.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Joy Anderson; his children Dwayne Anderson (Shelly), Derwin Anderson (Jacquelyn), and Donette Evans (Fred); his four cherished grandchildren—Sebastian, Symone, Shiloh, and Sheridan Anderson; his dear nieces Winona and Wanda Chisholm, Gillian (Sherwin) Long, his beloved godchildren Deetra Smalls and Tony Paul; along with extended family, his church family, the GCNTB community, and many dear friends.
“To God be the glory, great things He has done.”
