Benny Scalora's Obituary
Benny Scalora, 83, of Wesley Chapel, Florida passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024. He was born in Siracusa, Sicily on October 23, 1940, the son of Giuseppe Scalora and Giuseppina Gionfriddo Scalora. When Benny was eleven years old, he and his older sister, Lydia, traveled to the United States without their family to live with their aunt and uncle in Brooklyn, New York. Benny and Lydia were sent to school immediately and were given jobs to help their aunt and uncle. Benny was eventually reunited with his family in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from high school. He accepted a full-time job with the local grocery store and very quickly learned the business and became a manager.
In the summer of 1960, Benny met the love of his life, Vincenza. Benny and Vincenza married in 1962 and had two children, Joseph and Carmela. In 1970, they moved to Florida to start a new life for themselves. They eventually opened their own delicatessen and catering company in Naples, Florida, which became very successful. In his free time Benny enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling. Benny was a true family man. One of his greatest joys was having his family and friends around his dining table enjoying delicious Italian food. He was a loving and caring grandfather to his two beautiful granddaughters, Olivia and Sofia.
Benny is survived by his wife of 61 years Vincenza, his son Joseph and wife Connie of Naples, Florida, his daughter Carmela and husband Patrick and their children Olivia and Sofia of Tampa, Florida. Benny is also survived by his younger brother Salvatore Scalora and wife Claudia of Deep River, Connecticut.
