I was his insurance agent for many years. He was not only a client but he was a friend. I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing. He was a fine man. We met when he first came to Clearwater and continued our relationship until I retired 20 years ago.

I first met Barry when I was a Detective assigned to the Arson Unit with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 1986 when he was Captain of Detectives with Clearwater PD. Barry asked me to train one of his detectives in fire investigation and we became friends immediately, after sharing stories about his childhood in West Virginia and my home state in neighboring Pennsylvania.. Barry was a mentor to me in that he provided career guidance and the wisdom of his knowledge of police work, both in the investigative and administrative aspects.. I was so honored when he asked me to guest lecture in his classes at USF and St. Leo and the wonderful times we spent both before and after classes for nearly ten years and several fishing trips together. I will miss him greatly and always remember him with the greatest respect, admiration and love Rest easy my friend.
Dale J. Romeo, Sergeant, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Retired.
