William J. Schwaner's Obituary
William Jesse Schwaner Sr., 78, of New Port Richey, FL, passed away on July 28th, after a long battle with cancer.
William worked and retired as a New York City Sanitation Supervisor.
William was born in Flushing, New York, to Emily and Thomas Schwaner. He grew up in Jackson Heights, NY, with his sister Emily and brother Tom. As a boy he loved biking to the airport to watch planes take off and land, taking the subway with his friends to Coney Island to ride the Cyclone and eat a hot dog, and playing baseball.
At 20, he met Nancy at Bulova Watch Company in Jackson Heights. They fell in love and were married on Sept. 26, 1964. As they started their family, they had 2 sons, Bill and Scott. As a family they loved visiting Great Adventure Theme Park and parties with family and friends. Being a kind and dependable husband and father was of the utmost importance to William, and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.
In addition, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, tailgating, visiting Casino’s (Vegas, Biloxi, Hard Rock), listening to Doo-Wop’s and dancing with the love of his life, Nancy. He was always full of kindness, love and brightened every room with smiles and humor.
One day while riding a horse, the saddle had started to lean over and he saw his life flash in front of him. A man ran out and was stunned by it all. William always said that he didn’t know what he would have done if the manager at Woolworth’s wouldn’t have come out and unplugged the carousel.
William loved his job with the NYC Sanitation. He said he knows he complained every now and then, but the good outweighed the bad; it was a great job.
He was a considerate and loving partner to his spouse Nancy, as well as an amazing role model and father to his son’s Bill and Scott.
Aside from being survived by his wife and sons, he also leaves behind Bill’s partner Cynthia and Scott’s wife Christy, and his 6 grandchildren Brook, Brittany, Billy, Skyler, Dylan and Mia.
For those who know…now if he can only find the bird with the yellow brick!
