Sybil Leona Van Gurp's Obituary
On Monday, June 24, 2019 Sybil Leona Van Gurp at the age of 88 went to sleep in the home of her son, Jerome Van Gurp and his wife, America Van Gurp, surrounded by her husband David Van Gurp and her two sisters, Ettera Riley and Celeste Riley and at 7:01 p.m. left this world as she knew it and went to her eternal home in Heaven where she will live forever with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who she loved and worshipped with all her heart, mind and soul.
Sybil (mom) was born in Curacao (Netherland Antilles) on November 12, 1930 to Josefa Constantia Riley and Robert Henry Paulus Lambert. She lived in Curacao throughout her young life and it was there that she met her husband, David. They moved to Aruba in 1958 and on May 16, 1960 Sybil and her two children, Jerome and Alberto married David Van Gurp. Sybil and David expanded their family by giving birth to two additional children, Margie and Henry. In 1968 they moved to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands where they lived until October 14, 2017 when Hurricane Maria hit St. Croix and destroyed a large portion of the island. At that time Sybil and David moved to Tampa, Florida to live with their son and daughter-in-law until her death.
Sybil was preceded in death by her mother Josefa (Mamai) Constantia Riley, father Robert Henry Paulus Lambert, brothers Ricardo Riley, Paulus Riley, and sister Mavis (Patsy) Riley. She is survived by her husband David Van Gurp; four children, Jerome Van Gurp and daughter-in-law America Van Gurp, Alberto Van Gurp, Margaret (Margie) Van Gurp, Henry Van Gurp and daughter-in-law Lisah Vanburen Van Gurp; nine grandchildren, Jaime and husband Josue Parrilla, Delicia Van Gurp, Alberto (Ali) Van Gurp. Jr., Carlos Van Gurp, Daniel Coleman, Courtney Coleman, Myles Marshall, Monikah Marshall, Kenya Marshall, and two great grandchildren, Ja’melia Parrilla and Brianna Marshall; three sisters Marlene (Malienchi) Riley and family, Ettera Riley and family, Celeste Riley and family; brother Edmundo Riley and family.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday July 2, 2019 at citylife church located at 8411 North Dale Mabry, Tampa, Florida 33614 and officiated by Pastor Tony Stewart. Visitation will be from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm at which time the service will begin. Graveside Service will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens located at 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, Florida 34655.
