I first met Surendrabhai in Fall 1983. I had thought his would be but a cameo role to play in my life. However, as I got to know him better it was a revelation to realize how much he cared about fellow human beings and how much his principles would influence me. He and Pannaben had me stay with them at 3 Eva Lane in Scarsdale. I cannot forget the boundless hospitality that was offered to me in this wonderful home. I wasn’t an internist and neither was I planning to train as one and as such, I missed out being taught Surendrabhai’s discipline. I did land a research position at the Montefiore Medical Center in Pathology, a job for which Pannaben had recommended me with aplomb.
During one of the evenings a couple of months later when we had dinner, out of the blue, Surendrabhai offered to give me money to buy myself a car knowing fully well that I was not settled in the US and could not afford a car by myself. I will never forget his amazing generosity in making such a move without any strings attached. Such was his caring nature for a newbie in the US.
I left New York and moved to Wisconsin to start my Pathology residency. Before departing from New York, Surendrabhai made it very clear that if I needed any money, he would be happy to send it quickly so as to get myself settled in a new habitat where I knew not a soul. He was a tower of strength for me as I toiled with balancing demands of Residency and getting a home in time for the arrival of my wife and daughter within a month.
I reconnected with Surendrabhai and Pannaben in Tampa eleven years ago when he was giving his time and energy to Swadhyaya after his semiretirement. We never lost touch since then.
I am forever grateful to the Almighty for having my path cross Surendrabhai’s early on in my US life. He has now ascended to Kailash to be with Lord Shiv. My wife Chitra and I wish his Soul eternal Peace. Om Shanti.

I was fortunate enough to virtually meet Mahadevia sir for my USMLE steps classes. And he was such a great mentor that taught so many things outside just medicine, and I am so grateful for that. Just feel so unlucky that couldn't meet him in-person. And its hard to believe that such an amazing soul is no more with us. I hope we can do even a cent of work he did and brought change to thousands of lives.

I first met Surendrabhai at St.Mary’s hospltal, Brooklyn NY in 1976 as second year medical resident. He was associate director. We became close friends and end working together for more than 40 years. He was astute clinician and gifted teacher. He helped Jamaica hospital to achieve 100% passing rate for American Board of Internal Medicine after joining the program in four years for next twenty years. What an achievement. He was a gentle giant. Always ready to help anyone who needed any kind of help that he could render. We will miss him dearly. We pray lord Yogeshwar that his soul rest in eternal peace and give the entire family strength to bear their tremendous loss. Mahendra and Chhaya Patel.

Surendrakaka was never just a family member. From the moment we first stepped into his Tampa home, it became a second home—radiant with warmth, generosity, and the quiet assurance that help would always flow, as naturally as a river continuing its course.
His life was not only the journey of a doctor, but of a superhuman spirit—one whose very presence was a blessing, a living embodiment of compassion and strength. He carried within him the dharma of service, the cosmic rhythm of giving without measure.
For Nauka, for my son, for my daughter, and for me, his absence will echo beyond words. Yet we know that his karma has prepared him for the heavenly abode, where his soul now shines among the stars.
He lived as a guardian of humanity, and he departs as a beacon of Yogeshwar’s grace. His memory will remain not as sorrow, but as a reminder that the divine flows through those who live with boundless love.
