Sumitra Krishna Madhugiri's Obituary
Smt Madhugiri Krishna Madhugiri
(1934-2025)
Recollection and recapture of the qualities and accomplishments of a person completely, especially at the end of his / her life, is never an easy task! This is even more true in the case of Smt. Sumitra Krishna Madhugiri, our dear cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who after completing her long life of 90 years in this world, on 27th March 2025, embarked on an even more amazing journey towards the eternal abode of bhagavAn, Lord Sriman nArAyaNa. With great love and respect, we celebrate her long life today and reminsice a bit on her journey in this world.
Born on April 7th 1934 as a first child to Smt. Kamalamma and Sri. Srinivasa Raghavachar at Holavanahalli (Karnataka, India), Mrs. Madhugiri grew up with all possible education – academic, traditional, familial, spiritual etc. - of those times appropriate for a girl. She married Sri. Narasimha Krishna of Madhigiri, Karanataka, and entered into an even larger family as the first daughter-in-law of the new generation. Madhugiri family, being large as it was, and ever growing, demanded management skills of the highest order from a head of the family. Providing an effective support to the elders of the family and to her husband Sri. Narasimha Krishna, Mrs. Madhugiri proved to be an excellent leader, manager, compassionate collegaue and an affectionate relative for the rest of the family.
In her diverse roles as daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the matriarch of the family, she taught, learnt, collaborated and co-operated with each member of the family and she proved to be a trustable source of advice and support to them at times of need and beyond. For over six to seven decades, her warm affection, congeniality and ever-eagerness to help others, won over all the hearts and everyone in the family has his / her stories related to Mrs. Madhugiri that they can easily recollect and feel proud of.
While being a family person fulfilling all her responsibilities efficiently as a woman and head of the family, Mrs. Madhugiri also was connected with the world around her. She kept herself aware of the current events, and never shied away from sharing her points of view. She had a deep love for learning and meticulously documented important insights from newspapers, television, and books. She also had the disciplined habit of writing in her diary every day, preserving her thoughts, reflections, and experiences with care. Beyond her knowledge and talents, Mrs. Madhugiri had an exceptional memory and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion and was always the first to send heartfelt wishes, making every family member feel valued and cherished.
She was a guiding force in the lives of many, leaving an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her compassion was boundless, and her determination unwavering. She had the rare gift of making everyone she encountered feel special and heard.
On the spiritual front, Mrs. Madhugiri adhered to the family tradditions all along, yet being progressive, and passed on her learnings to her children and other youngsters in the family. At an appropriate elder age, she did ‘sharaNAgati’ (total surrender) as ordained by VishishTAdvaitic scriptures and ensured that her soul would always be under the protection of Sriman nArAyaNa after completing the journey in this earth. This in iteself would elevate the regard one could have in her prominence and accomplishments.
Mrs. Madhugiri lived her life with quiet dignity, strength, and profound kindness. She touched countless lives, and her legacy of wisdom, love, and resilience will continue to inspire generations to come. She departed this world as she lived—gracefully and unassumingly—leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
While there can be no last word about a person like Smt. Sumitra Krishna Madhugiri, we, as her children, relatives, and acquaintances, would cherish the times we were able to spend with her, our interactions, conversations and the lessons we learned from her – in summary, the ‘good times’! May her blessings be always on us, as they have been with us when she was here physically.
