Although I never had a face to face meeting with pastor I feel as though I have known him all my life. The love, compassion, dedication he had for the work of the Lord, for the church, for souls, for the unborn and for our nation was evident. I have grown over the past years because of his continually faith and determination to speak the truth of God unwaivering. I will never forget one of his favorite phase "get a word from the Lord". Pastor I truly miss you and thank you for your love and faithfulness. You have truly ran the race and your legacy will continue through those you impacted.

Pstr Sammy was a dear friend and my mentor when I received Christ in 1973. He and his family reached out to us when my brother was dying of cancer. They witnessed to us and took us to church every week. Thank you Pstr Sammy for answering all my questions and teaching me to have a deep relationship with Jesus! My deepest condolences to Jenny, Samuelito and the entire Portalatin family.

Some 30 years ago God used pastor Samuel Portalatin to lead my wife Judith, my daughter Natalie and me to accept Jesus as Lord and savior and was very instrumental in the development of our spiritual lives.
During those years we were all witnesses of his deep love for his wife Jenny, his son Samuel, his daughter in law Melisa and his grandchildren; not to mention our congregation.
We will forever be grateful of his example as a man of prayer and for his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
His deep love for Jesus and the ministry caused him to continue to minister till the end even while being hampered with excruciating pain and discomfort.
Some 20 years ago Pastor introduced me to golf and when we played together he will often ask me to take a mulligan, which in golf is an allowable do-over of an errant shot, so that I will not be discouraged and allow me to end the round with a better score.
Not wanting to give in to my lack of skill, I would thank him for his generosity, politely decline his offer, take my medicine and loose mucho rounds.
My wife and l will miss him greatly and pray that the way he conducted his life will continue to motivate us all to live a life in complete dependance and obedience to the Lord.

Pastor, you were an inspiration in my life, your faithfulness to God was extraordinary, your faith in God unshakable, and your love for people was great. You were never too busy to counsel, pray and encourage, for that was your life, it was your passion and your joy.

The pain caused by your physical illness could not hold you back from doing the will of God. You lived to please God, to follow his call, to do his bidding. Your life exemplified the character of God.

I am honored to have known you, to have been able to sit with you in fellowship and learn from you.

The Lord looked upon the earth and saw you. He placed his hands upon your cheeks, and said I miss you, I long for you to be in my kingdom, to enjoy the fullness of my presence, my glory and splendor. So he stretched out His hand to bring you home. He said, come enter my rest, the race is finished my good and faithful servant. Welcome home.

We are so very saddened to hear of the passing of Pastor Sammy Portalatin. I remember meeting Sammy and Jenny when I arrived at 543 Atlantic Avenue where the Brooklyn Tabernacle held its services. We all love this man of God. I can't help but feel sadness for his family, for his congregation and for the many friends who will miss him so very deeply. Sammy always displayed such a sweet and gentle spirit. He possessed a quiet strength and quiet confidence in God. I will always remember Sammy's smile. He had an indelible personality and carried himself with such grace and dignity. We are better because he graced our lives with his presence and we thank your entire family for sharing Sammy Portalatin with so many of us. He has heard the words of our Savior, well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joys prepared for you from before the foundations of the world. Our loss is heaven's gain! We have truly lost an anointed and powerful man of God. Our Pastor had a love for God and people and it was displayed in how he treated his wife and family and all the members. We will miss him dearly but as members we will see to it that the lessons he taught us will not be forgotten, we will continue to carry on the work that He has started and left behind for us to complete. His life speaks for itself and only heaven will reveal the many lives impacted by his obedience to the call of God.

I will never forget when we were moving from New York to Tampa in 2001 our Pastor at Times Square Church- The Late Pastor David Wilkerson asked my wife and I if we knew of any churches in Tampa where we would fellowship. We told him no, and he said to us don't worry about it, he was going to pray for us and God would lead us to the right church. He gave us his blessings and encouraged us to seek the Lord also in prayer for a church.

When we arrived in Tampa we visited several churches but we never felt in our spirits any strong attachments to these churches. However when someone told us about Tampa Bay Tabernacle and we visited the church that first Sunday, throughout the entire service there was such an anointing in that service, my family and I kept looking at each other with tears in our eyes because we got the confirmation that morning that this church would become our home church. We were so excited to report back to our Pastor in NY that we have found a church and since that time Tampa Bay Tabernacle has been our home church..

Pastor Samuel Portalatin, his family and the members of Tampa Bay Tabernacle made us feel so welcomed and ever since they have been such a source of strength and support to my family and I .over the years . Our pastor was a man of integrity, love and faith.
My faith has increased from just seeing the example in Him, he was a man of prayer and was never too sick or in pain to pray for anyone, up even up to the few weeks before his transition to glory. His soul is now at rest, out of all harm, pain and sickness and we know that we shall all meet again one day around the throne of God.
Sleep well mighty warrior! Great shall be your reward in heaven.
