Ruth Hendrickson's Obituary
Hendrickson, J. Ruth 93, of Trinity, FL, was called to heaven on May 8, 2021 with her daughters, Jane (husband Skip) and Mary, by her side. Ruth is also survived by her grandsons Mark (wife Kara) and Keith, her great grandchildren, Christopher, Aiden and Makenna, sisters Margie and Edy and many nieces and nephews who she loved very much.
Ruth was born at home on a farm in Freeport Ohio. Her 13 year old sister helped deliver her while her father and brother went to get the doctor. She was the fifth of seven children.
She attended Ohio University and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta fraternity, which she was active in for many years. She served in many roles including President of the North Suncoast chapter which she was instrumental in establishing.
She married Chet in 1950 and moved to Long Island, New York where they raised their two girls. They retired to Florida where they met many new friends, played golf and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Over the years at her home in Fairway Springs, New Port Richey, she held almost every position of the Women’s Club which included a 3 year run as president. She was also a member of the Florida Orchestra North Suncoast Association and at the age of 87 began volunteering in the gift shop at Medical Center of Trinity. She was also a member of the DAR.
Sometime after Chet passed away, Ruth was blessed with the companionship and love of her dear friend Art and his family.
Ruth loved crossword puzzles and playing solitaire on the computer. She loved to cook, entertain and Friday night happy hour with her neighbors. She canned pickles and made jellies and jams. She loved music and the theatre. She enjoyed an evening cocktail; Manhattan with sweet vermouth, Canadian whiskey on the rocks with extra cherry juice. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and yearly girls’ weekends at the beach.
The family wants to thank The Watermark of Trinity and The Rucki Hospice Care Center for their kindness and care during Ruth’s final months.
No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.
