Robert Smeltzer's Obituary
SMELTZER, Robert Lee “Bob”
79, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was a
graduate of Vandergift High School in 1957. Bob went on to
serve in the U.S. Army Reserves for several years before settling
down and marrying his high school sweetheart in July of
1963. Bob began his professional life in banking before moving
on to various managerial positions mostly in aluminum product
sales and retail footwear. He was an active member of St.
Timothy Catholic Church, where for many years, he served as
an Usher and Eucharistic Minister. Bob was a devoted husband,
father, and grandfather who enjoyed traveling with his family
and watching his grandchildren compete in various sports activities.
He was an easy-going guy with a sarcastic sense of
humor, whose only intent was to bring a smile to someone’s
face. Bob was quite skilled at around-the-house handyman
work and would tackle projects most others would avoid. Up
until his final days, he would occupy himself at home with small
projects to stay busy. Having been born, raised, and lived in
surrounding areas of Pittsburgh, Bob was an unwavering fan of
his beloved Steelers. He enjoyed listening to old country music
and watching old western movies. He will be deeply missed by
his family, friends, and all who knew him. Preceded in death
by his parents, Franklin and Ann Smeltzer, he is survived by
his wife of 54 years, Patricia L.; son, Robert Smeltzer (Cynthia);
daughter, Nancy Stringfield (Jim); daughter, Michelle
Ignat (Paul); sister, Patricia Krotzer (Bill); brother-in-law, Jim
Lamanna (Margaret); six grandchildren, Jessica Baker (Eric),
Tyler Smeltzer, Nathan and Lauren Stringfield, Nickolas and
Matthew Ignat; great-grandchildren, Ayrica, Liam, Ellah, and
Jameson Baker; and four nieces. Funeral services will be held
at 9 am Thursday, November 9, 2017 at St. Timothy Catholic
Church, 17512 Lakeshore Rd., Lutz, FL 33558. The family will
receive friends from 8-9 am prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests that donations be made to Society of St.
Vincent de Paul, National Council of the US, 58 Progress Pkwy.,
Maryland Heights, MO 63043-3706 and St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
