Robert William Montgomery 1929-2015
Robert (Bob) Montgomery passed away on March 4, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father as well as his wife of 56 years, Sally Lee Carter Montgomery. Bob is survived by his brother, Thaddeus James(Jim) Montgomery, daughter Ann Skiles and her husband Keith, daughter Jeanne Tulloch and her husband Ty, 3 grandchildren – Josh, Robby and Ty, 2 great grandchildren – Flynn and Nolan as well as lots of loving family in Texas, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Missouri and New York. Bob was born in Cincinnati to Thaddeus James and Marie Ann Montgomery. His favorite childhood memories were visiting Coney Island with his aunt Maggie as well as time spent working in Yosemite National Park as a teenager. Bob earned a bachelor degree in Philosophy from Wabash College. He served his country in the Korean War and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Artillery Branch of the Army, where he received 4 medals for his service including 2 bronze stars. After an honorable discharge, Bob pursued a master’s degree at Northwestern University. While there, he met the love of his life on a blind date. Within 45 minutes of meeting Sally, he knew she was the one and they were married July 21, 1956. Bob began his career in Chicago while Sally finished her degree. After they were married, he and Sally decided to move out of the cold. After Sally finished a year of teaching, they spent the summer traveling and seeing families before landing in Dallas. Sally started a new teaching job and Bob found his next job. It was there that they started their family. Bob’s work took him into consulting, data processing, and administration in Dallas, Oklahoma, and Florida. One of his most exciting jobs was running one of the early timeshare data centers in the 60’s. Bob also served as Vice President and President of the National Association of Accounting, significantly increasing membership during his tenure. After successful careers, Bob and Sally retired to Florida where they continued to serve in their community while enjoying golf, traveling and family.
Services: Visitation at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Trinity, FL on March 9 from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Graveside service at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Tuesday, March 10 at 10:00pm.
