Richard Gary Dobson's Obituary
Richard G. Dobson, a retired US Postal Service Mail Handler, a Vietnam Veteran, and resident of Tampa, FL passed away on August 14, 2020 at the age of 73.
Richard is survived by his children William and Marianela Dobson and Stephanie and Lynn Sorensen; grandson Jayden Zabala; his sister Linda Dobson. He is predeceased by his brother Donald Dobson and parents Chester and Dora Dobson.
Richard was born in Patterson, New Jersey on September 17, 1946 to Chester and Dora Dobson. As a child, Richard was an Eagle Scout, a baritone player for the Hawthorne Muchachos Drum and Bugle Corp. During the time of the Vietnam War, he served as a petty officer for the US Navy. His training included advanced radar, nuclear, biological and chemical and anti-submarine warfare. He was also a Navy Researcher on the benefits of dolphin intelligence for mankind. After the Navy, he attended and graduated William Patterson College with a Bachelors of Arts in History.
Richard was a devoted father who was always there for his children and made it a priority to spend his free time on family focused activities. He had a love for the outdoors, fishing, music, classic movies, dancing, reading and playing chess. He retired from the US Postal Service with 27 years of service where he was continually recognized for his outstanding example of pride, dedication and commitment.
Richard will be deeply missed by his children and family. A funeral service is scheduled for August 29, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Trinity Memorial Gardens on 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, FL 34655.
