Richard Dempster's Obituary
DEMPSTER, RICHARD VREELAND, age 91, died January 24, 2020, at home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Dempster. Survived by his wife, Jean L. Dempster; two daughters, Denise Watkins of Dunedin, Florida, Donna Boggs of Beaufort, South Carolina, three stepdaughters, Bridget Maskell of New Port Richey, Florida, Wanda Burnside of Zephyrhills, Florida, Lisa Serafini of Hudson, Florida, eleven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Born in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Mr. Dempster served as a US Army paratrooper in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He attended Pace University, Carnegie Tech and Harvard Business School. He was a retired senior executive of Black & Decker Corp., later was founder and CEO of four environmental and medical products companies and was cofounder of TAMCO. He served as Chairman, President and Director of corporations, hospitals, universities, the Power Tool Institute, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, The Business Council for Indoor Air, The Chief Executive Officers Roundtable, British Institute of Directors and the American Supply and Machinery Manufacturers Association. He was a member (and past president) of Cypress Run Golf Club, New York Athletic Club, Town Hall of California, University of Southern California Associates, American Legion Post 173, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10167, and a Life Member of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 11th Airborne Division Associations.
Visitation services for friends and family will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Trinity, Florida on Wednesday January 29th, from 4pm to 7 pm. A private burial service is planned at the Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, Florida on Thursday January 30th. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to American Legion at https://www.members.legion.org/tal/donatenow#legion.org in honor of Richard V. Dempster.
