Raymond G. Flanders' Obituary
Raymond George Anthony Flanders, after celebrating his eighty-sixth birthday on October 2, entered into his eternal rest on October 7. Raymond was born, raised and lived most of his life in Yonkers, NY. He was the son of the late Joan and Harold Flanders and was predeceased by his wife of eleven years, Arlene (Mihalenko) and his brother Hal. Raymond is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaret (Forte) and two sons, Robert (Darcy) residing in NJ and Christopher (Dina) from Springhill, Florida. He was blessed with three loving grandchildren: Raymond, Nicole and Arlene. He also enjoyed the relationship of a sister-in-law, Catherine Lanza (Joseph), four brother-in-laws: Michael (Eileen), John, Tom (Gloria) and Robert (Susan), and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Yonkers High School, Raymond worked in a hearing aid factory and later in construction. During this time he enlisted in the Army National Reserve and was called to active duty in 1960. During his deployment he was sent to Germany on the "Look and See" Mission to observe the building of the Berlin Wall.
After his Army service he settled down in Yonkers with his wife, Arlene, to work for the New York Telephone Company and raise his two sons. In 1976, Arlene passed after a three year battle with cancer. In 1980 Raymond married Margaret, a Yonkers teacher, and life continued in Yonkers.
After 27 years in the phone company Raymond retired and relocated to New Port Richey with his wife. During his life he was an avid New York Yankees fan, enjoyed bowling in Yonkers, boating on the Hudson River, golfing in Florida, cruising and helping friends and family. Raymond enjoyed many long and lasting friendships that span 30 to over 70 years duration.
Raymond was truly a devoted father, a loving grandfather and a faithful friend. Above all, Raymond was a kind, thoughtful, patient and loving husband and will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
