Ramakrishna Bhat's Obituary
Ramakrishna Pervaje Bhat, 79 years of age, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by his wife and three daughters.
Ram was born on April 1, 1945 in Vaduvanchal, Kerala, India to the late Venkatramana Bhat and Rathna Bai. He was the third of eight children, preceded in passing by his eldest sister Jayashree. Ram was educated in Manipal Institute of Technology in Manipal, India, where his father was principal, and later completed a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. Upon graduating, Ram embarked on a forty year engineering and project management career across multiple industries and geographies. The last thirty years of his career was spent in Bloomington, Illinois. After a long tenure as a fire protection engineer at Illinois Power, he embarked on a new professional journey as a project manager at State Farm Insurance until 2015.
Ram married Yashoda Rao in 1973 and together they raised a beautiful family of three daughters. Ram and Yashoda made homes in New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, and Florida and were famous for their dosa parties. Everywhere he went, he nurtured and embraced a supportive community that became an extension of his family.
A man of endless curiosity and zest for life, Ram was always eager to explore the world and deepen his understanding of life’s wonders. In Yashoda, he had a perfect partner to journey in new adventures. Together they traveled the world and always sought to expand their own understanding of it. At the same time, Ram remained deeply rooted in his heritage and traditions. His visits to South Canara for the Udupi Parayaya and Pervaje Navaratri poojas were meaningful pilgrimages that connected him to his past and enriched his spirituality. Across time zones and generations, he kept close contact with so many family members and served as a trusted mentor.
Ram had an incredible gift for connecting with people. He was an eternal optimist, a patient listener, a compassionate helper, and a steadfast friend who genuinely cared about the lives he touched. Ram’s love for others and his ability to make everyone feel valued left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, love, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Ram’s his loving memory will be cherished by his wife Yashoda Bhat; children Surekha Bhat Husmann (Nathan), Ambika Bhat (Oshan), and Nandini Bhat Drummy (Matthew); grandchildren Kian Husmann, Bodhi Husmann, and Uma Drummy; and six siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
