Neal C. Harmon of Tampa, FL passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the age of 83. After several months of declining health due to heart disease, Neal died peacefully with his beloved family by his side.
Neal was born in Jackson, Mississippi on February 5, 1938 but spent most of his childhood in Mobile, Alabama. The oldest of three children, he did not have the opportunity for much formal education. His work ethic and desire to succeed led him to enlist in the Air Force where he began his pilot training on May 26, 1958 and then served in the 407th Air Refueling Squadron (SAC). He left the Air Force in 1964 when he was stationed at Homestead Air Force Base where he met his wife Francine Fernandez. They were married on October 25, 1964. Afterwards he went on to serve as Captain in the Air National Guard until he accepted a pilot position with Delta Airlines on February 21, 1965 where he became Captain and retired 22 years later.
Neal was preceded in death by his wife Francine. He is survived by their children Shari Lopez and Carl Harmon: grandchildren Francine Harmon, Carlos Harmon and Christopher Lopez. He later remarried and lived in Panama where he is survived by current wife Ana Hernandez and their daughter Alison Harmon.
A visitation for Neal is planned for Friday, October 1, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and a chapel service to follow from 8:00 – 9:00 pm. The service will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, FL 34655. The service will also be live streamed at TrinityMemorial.com. All are invited to attend.
Families wishing to honor Neal’s memory are asked to send flowers or make a donation to the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force where his Air Force squadron was later included.
