Obituary: Mohan Anantram Hebbar
January 27, 1945 – February 4, 2026
Mohan Anantram Hebbar, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong learner, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born on January 27, 1945, Mohan lived a life shaped by curiosity, thoughtful problem-solving, and deep integrity. His work ethic was exemplary and inspirational. He followed the principle from the Bhagavad Gita, “Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana” — You have a right to perform your duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. He approached both his work and life with care, patience, and a determination to do things well. Over a 43-year career at Siemens-Westinghouse, he worked in project management and energy services, contributing to the design, development, and servicing of power plants. His work supported both traditional and emerging energy technologies, reflecting his long-standing interest in innovation and the responsible evolution of the energy sector.
In 2012, Mohan retired and settled in Tampa, Florida, where he embraced retirement with enthusiasm and purpose. Over the next 14 years, he and his wife, Poornima, traveled extensively, exploring the world together and carefully documenting their journeys. Completing visits to all 50 U.S. states was a milestone he took particular pride in, not for the achievement alone, but for the experiences and memories gathered along the way.
Mohan married Poornima in 1971, beginning a partnership that spanned more than five decades. She was a constant source of inspiration and strength throughout his personal and professional life. Poornima worked as a computer graphic designer for several companies before transitioning to freelance work. Together, they navigated many chapters of life across countries, careers, and communities with resilience, humor, and mutual respect.
He was a proud and devoted father to two children. His daughter, Reshmi, holds a Ph.D. in English Literature and lives in Atlanta with her husband, Shvetal, and their daughters, Anavi and Jhilli. Mohan delighted in watching his granddaughters grow into confident young adults. His son, Manish, lives in New York City with his wife, Esther, and is the co-founder and CEO of CapeZero, a company focused on advancing clean energy.
Mohan was a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 1967. He also completed a master’s degree in Materials Science at the University of Delaware in 1970 and a master’s degree in Business Administration at Widener University in 1975.
Outside of work, Mohan enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and tennis. In retirement, he remained actively engaged in his community, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, tutoring high school students, and teaching AARP Driver Safety courses for seniors. He strongly believed in staying useful and supporting charitable causes.
Mohan will be remembered for his humility, kindness, intellectual rigor, and steady presence. He led by example, leaving a legacy of integrity, generosity, and love that continues in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
