Michael Volpe's Obituary
Michael John Volpe, aged 73, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on September 23, 2024 after an eight year battle with Alzheimer’s with Dementia. Born on November 11, 1950, Michael's life was one marked by vibrant engagement with the world and the people around him. Known for his commanding presence and open-hearted nature, he was someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made sure his door was open to friends and strangers alike. His steadfast, confident demeanor often meant things were done his way, a trait that served him well both personally and professionally.
Michael's journey began in education at PS 112, Woodward Parkway Elementary, and Mill Lane Jr. High School, before graduating from Farmingdale High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972 during the Vietnam War, a period of his life that instilled in him a lasting sense of discipline and camaraderie.
Professionally, Michael was skilled with his hands and found his calling in mechanics. He worked at Ronnie's Truck Service in Farmingdale, New York, and later at the United States Postal Service in Queens, New York, and Tampa, Florida, as a mechanic and body man. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open A Perfect Image Personalized Auto Body in Tampa, where he combined his skills with his creative vision.
Michael's passions extended beyond his work. He was an avid restorer and collector of old Mopars, a hobby that allowed him to channel his meticulous attention to detail and love for classic cars. Additionally, he was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, New York Jets, and Tampa Bay Lightning, and enjoyed fishing and hunting, activities that connected him with nature and provided cherished moments of peace and solitude.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Joanne M. Volpe; his precious daughters, Maria T. Shutter and Michelle J. Volpe; son-in-law, Paul A. Shutter (the son he never had); his beloved grandchildren, Luca A. and Aria L. Shutter; his cherished sister, Diane Hepsen; and numerous in-laws from the Cilluffo family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward M. and Mary T. Volpe, and his in-laws, Joseph S. and Marie C. Cilluffo.
A graveside service to honor Michael's life will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, Florida, at 9:30 a.m. on October 11, 2024. The family welcomes all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his remarkable life.
