Michael Powell's Obituary
Michael John Powell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in his home in Tampa, FL, on July 30, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on October 18, 1946, in the Panama Canal Zone, Michael led a life of dedication, passion, and service.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Laurena and William Powell, his brother Gary Powell, and his sons Michael Powell Jr. and Chris Toffolo. He is survived by his devoted wife Naomi Powell, his brother Mark Powell (Laura) of New Port Richey, FL, and his children Justin Powell (Marisa) of Tampa, FL, William Powell (Sarah) of Altamonte Springs, FL, and Kelly Holzberger (Fred) of Prince Frederick, MD. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Freddy Holzberger, Matthew Holzberger, Josiah Powell, Alida Powell, Jaidalyn Powell, Jayliah Powell, and Katie (Warren) Oxman and 3 great grandchildren.
Michael proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he honed his skills as an electrical engineer. His passion for sound and production led him to tour with the renowned musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" and eventually to a fulfilling career as a production and sound system design engineer. Among his many accomplishments, Michael worked at esteemed venues such as the Whitehouse and Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL where he worked with famous artists, world renowned orchestras, and off-Broadway productions.
A pivotal moment in Michael's life was his conversion to Christianity, sparked by the baptism of his wife Naomi and two sons, Justin and Will, at Countryside Christian Church (CCC). Inspired by their faith, Michael embraced his own journey with Christ and was baptized soon thereafter. His newfound faith and technical talents merged beautifully as he joined the staff at CCC, dedicating over 20 years to enhancing the church's productions and services before retiring in 2014.
Michael's warmth, generosity, and expertise left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of dedication, faith, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless individuals he touched throughout his life.
A service to celebrate Michael's life will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 3rd at Lakeview Church. Lakeview Church’s address is: 475 East Lake Road North, Tarpon Springs, FL 33688.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Countryside Christian Church to the Celebrate Recovery program in honor of Michael.
