Medford Shealy's Obituary
Medford Wilson Shealy, Jr., 77, of Odessa, passed away on June 24, 2021 after an extended illness. He was born on October 1, 1943 in Gainesville, FL and graduated from Bradford County High School in 1962. Medford also lived for many years in Virginia and Miami, FL.
Medford served in the U.S. Army and was a licensed electrician by trade. He is perhaps best remembered as a man’s man who was full of life. Medford loved to fish, hunt, travel, cook and entertain. He was a sports enthusiast who had an open garage door policy for friends and neighbors to drop by and watch a game or say hello. He never knew a stranger and had an open and kind heart.
Although family and friends have lost a man who was larger than life in so many ways, he will live in our hearts and memories always. Reflecting on Medford brings to mind his nature for being humble and considerate. Medford was a quiet man who could light up a room with a sideways glance or sly smile. He will be eulogized through stories and recollections throughout time.
Medford is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Frances Cosciello Shealy; his sisters, Cheryl Howard (John Marcus) of Lake Butler, FL; Sandra Messer (Floyd) of Live Oak, FL and Sarah Shealy of Lake City, FL. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Medford, Sr. and Frances (Trice) Shealy.
The many heartfelt tributes to Medford from friends, who were more like family, show the impact he made on their lives and the world. His love of his wonderful wife, Fran (whom he always called Frances) was, and will always be, apparent.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lutz, FL, July 16, 2021, 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers: St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lutz, FL
