Mary M Hughes' Obituary
Mary Margaret Hughes, 91, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, in Temple Terrace, Florida, surrounded by the love of her daughters and granddaughter.
Born on April 2, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary was the cherished daughter of Francis Kelley and Everett Wood. From a young age, she carried a warmth and strength that would shape the beautiful life she built and the family she held so close to her heart.
Mary devoted her life to what mattered most—her family. As a homemaker, she created more than just a house; she created a home filled with laughter, creativity, and unconditional love. She was funny and ornery in the most endearing way, quick with wit, and full of life. Deeply loving and naturally artistic, she had a special way of making everything—and everyone—feel a little more beautiful.
She was known as a true style icon, always perfectly put together with her hair and makeup done, no matter the occasion. But beyond her outward beauty was a heart that defined her—one that gave endlessly. Her favorite words, “I love you more,” were not just a saying, but a promise she lived out every day.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Hughes, and her sons, Randall Hughes and Stephen Hughes. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Nancy Bernstein (Michael Bernstein), Kelley Scaglione (Andy Scaglione), and Melinda Hughes.
Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Melissa Bacon, Amy Frias, Shaun Bernstein, Christopher Hughes, Amanda Gordon, Jacob Hughes, Michael Edmonson, Matthew Hughes, and Mia Scaglione—and her great-grandchildren Wyatt, Logan, Colin, Cassidy, Emma, Randy, Michael, Carter, Kensington, and Adelina, along with her great-great-grandchildren, Alena and Jayden. Each of them carries a piece of her spirit, her strength, and her love.
Mary didn’t just raise her children—she helped raise generations. Her presence was a constant source of comfort, guidance, and unwavering support. To know her was to be loved by her, and that love was something truly rare and unforgettable.
A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, Florida.
No other woman has been loved like her. She helped raise all of her family and will be greatly missed—forever remembered, forever cherished.
