Mary Ann Dalton's Obituary
Mary Ann Dalton died on June 9, 2017 in New Port Richey, FL, 83. Her death came just three weeks to the day after the passing of William S. Dalton, her husband of more than 60 years. She is survived by her four children: Anne Marie, Bill, Stephen, and Michael, and six grandchildren: Charlie, Tatiana, Andrew, Alex, Jack and Cooper.
Born Mary Ann Gorski, in Webster, MA, she attended Bryant College in Providence, RI, graduating in 1953. In 1955, while working for IBM in Boston, Mary Ann met her future husband, Bill Dalton, who had just returned from active duty in Korea the previous year. Shortly after Bill’s February 1956 graduation from the Wharton School of Business, he proposed to Mary Ann, and they were married on September 1, 1956.
After beginning their marriage in Corning, NY, the couple moved to Framingham (where all four children were born), and then to Manchester, MA. In 1969, Bill’s job led them to move their family to Europe, where they lived in Lausanne, Switzerland and Stanmore, England until returning to Manchester in 1973. Eventually, the cold New England weather brought the couple south to New Port Richey, FL, where they lived until their deaths in 2017.
Mary Ann was a compassionate and caring person who volunteered for a variety of charitable causes over the years, including the American Cancer Association, Beverly Hospital, and Helping Hands. She organized a number of fundraising campaigns, blood drives, and other events in order to raise money to benefit those less fortunate than herself, in keeping with her Catholic faith. Mary Ann was very generous to those around her, and she will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
Donations may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to St. James the Apostle Parish in Port Richey, FL (www.stjamesportrichey.org).
