Lois Berghoff 's Obituary
Lois Berghoff, 91, of New Port Richey Florida died on May 16th, 2019. A loving mother of four children, Stephen, Linda, Daniel, and Phillip, her life and energy was reflected in the passion she had for art and the love she had for her family. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana as Lois Mendenhall, she was one of three children. She attended Marion College and Indiana University in Indianapolis, where she met her husband Jack. The family moved to the Philadelphia area in 1963 and soon after Lois graduated with an MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. After graduating and moving to New Jersey with her family, Lois helped establish The Printmaking Center of New Jersey. In 1980 the family moved to Florida.
Soon after moving to Florida, and for many years after Lois and Jack's presence was felt in the Tampa Bay area. Lois was a gallerist supporting local artists, a fine art appraiser and co-founder of Berghoff- Cowden Fine Art Editions. Even before moving to Florida, Lois, as stated previously, was active in the arts in both New Jersey and New York. She was a co-founder of The Printmaking Center of New Jersey which is now known as Frontline Arts/PCNJ and its' first director. The art center is still very active today after 40 + years.
A loving mother, she guided her children with wisdom and humor. A family friend recently stated that Lois was “intelligent and sparkly, nothing escaped her quicksilver presence. She was a go getter, a forward thinking spirit, deeply committed to the Arts; her love and dedication to her children the only rival to her passion for Art."
