Lizzie Ward's Obituary
Lizzie Marie Ward (Mathews), born on October 26, 1940, in Mangham, LA, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication. Lizzie graduated from Alto High School in 1958 and went on to earn her BA in Elementary Education from Grambling State College in 1961. She began her teaching career in Helena, AR, and later moved to Kansas City, MO, where she continued to inspire young minds until her retirement.
Lizzie married the love of her life, Henry Ward Jr., on March 10, 1963. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared a deep devotion to each other. In 1967, Lizzie dedicated her life to Jehovah God, faithfully serving as a devoted follower until her passing.
Lizzie was a pillar in her family, known for her nurturing spirit and unwavering support. She enjoyed teaching others about her faith, traveling, and indulging in her favorite pastime—shopping for shoes. Her hobbies included macrame, baking her famous lemon bars and 7-up pound cake, gardening, and playing card games like Bid Wiz.
She is survived by her loving husband, Henry Ward Jr.; her son, Andre LaShon Ward, and daughter-in-law, Graciela Hernandez-Ward; her grandchildren, Xavier D. Hernandez-Ward, Ariyana A. Hernandez-Ward, Basil A. Ward, and DeAndre D. Ward; her sister, Edna Boyd; her brother, Edward Mathews; and her nieces, Dorthy McDonald and Brenda Black.
Lizzie was preceded in death by her sons, Darryl D. Ward and Christopher S. Ward; her grandson, Vaugh.J. Ward; her parents, Lanis Mathews (Jackson) and Willie Mathews; her brothers, Eugene Robinson, Jessie Matthews, and Willie Matthews Jr.; and her sister, Maggie Moore.
Lizzie’s life was a testament to her faith, love, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
