Lester George Manhoo's Obituary
Lester George Manhoo also known as “Sonny”, 80, of Land O Lakes, Florida (FL), passed away on September 10, 2021.
Lester was born in Kingston, Jamaica March 24th 1941. He was the oldest of five brothers and sisters to parents Harold and Ethlyn Manhoo. He moved to St. Croix United States Virgin Islands (USVI) in the 1960s where he met the love of his life, Carmen Silva Manhoo. He later moved to Land O Lakes FL in 2014 to be closer to his family. He leaves behind his lifelong partner, Carmen, of 56 years, his three children: Lester Jr., Sunita, and Leslie; and his grandchildren Lily, Alesiah, Azarah and Isaiah.
Lester was a self-starter who loved working with motors, mechanics, and operating heavy machinery. He was considered one of the best crane operators in the Hovensa/Hess Oil Refineries of the USVI. He was an explorer who wasn’t afraid to jump in his car and drive all over Florida discovering new places and people along the journey. Lester spent most of his years in the islands but adapted to “stateside” living very quickly in his older years. He was a free spirit who lived his life doing what he loved and taking care of his family.
Lester’s family is deeply saddened by his loss but are grateful that he lived a long life and is in a better place. Lester was a true warrior; he survived and overcame so much in his lifetime. You would never see him angry or complaining, even when the outcomes were uncertain. Everything and everyone gravitated to him. He is an example of what it is to be a provider, a protector, a father, a hero, and an overall good, loving person.
