Lawrence "Larry" James Morrison's Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” James Morrison, age 72, of Gulfport, FL, passed away on March 6,2026. Born June 15, 1953 in Cambridge, MA. Larry lived a life of friendliness and love, especially of family, sports, and company.
Larry moved to Florida in 1968. He attended Boca Ciega High School. He spent his career working 30 plus years at the then St. Petersburg Times, moving up the ranks in the Transportation Department. He retired in 2008 from the Times. During retirement he enjoyed a brief stint as youth and high school football official. He enjoyed traveling on the road with his beloved wife of 49 years, Debra, visiting national and state parks. He enjoyed tinkering on many projects, especially Lego and models. He was always eager to share his knowledge about cars, electrical, and other things to anyone who asked, especially guiding his son, Christian.
Larry was known for being friendly to anyone he met. He would always find common ground with anyone. Larry enjoyed watching sports, rooting for his adopted team, the Green Bay Packers, being a shareholder, as well as the Florida Gators, and the South Florida Bulls.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Leonard(Joe), mother, Gertrude(Evelyn), brothers; Rodney, and Paul. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Deb, son, Chris, and his wife Marlena, sister; Trudy, brothers; Joseph, and David, grandchildren; Christian Jr., Jay, and Hope.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 25th 12 to 4pm at the Azalea Community Center, 1600 72nd Street N, St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the National Parks Foundation.
