Kathleene J. Hammond's Obituary
On Saturday, September 4, 2021, Kathleene “Kathy” (Piazza) Hammond, loving mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away at the age of 73.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Brian Hammond; her parents, Peter and Nancy Piazza; and her brothers, Joseph Piazza and Peter Piazza. She is survived by her children, Kristi (Rick) Stogsdill and Larry (Kate) Hammond; grandchildren, Dallas (Nathan) Rhodes, Madison Stogsdill, Ethan Hammond, and Riley Hammond; sister, Karen (Walt) Carr; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Kathy was born January 3, 1948 to Peter and Nancy Piazza and grew up in Akron, Ohio. She obtained her degree in elementary education from The University of Akron and taught kindergarten in Akron Public Schools until she retired in 2005.
Kathy genuinely loved everyone she met and was “like-a-mother” to many. She especially loved her grandchildren. There’s no doubt that being “Nonni” to Dallas, Madison, Ethan, and Riley was her greatest joy in life.
Kathy was a devout Catholic. She taught CCD for many years and was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Parrish in Akron, Ohio, until she moved to Tampa, Florida, where she became an active member of Incarnation Catholic Church until her stroke in 2008. Even after her stroke, her love and faith were evident to all who met her, and she lived her life as a true testimony of her faith until the very end.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all the nurses, aides, and caregivers at ManorCare of Palm Harbor for their kindness and support over the years.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a reception at the Stogsdill home (1081 Misty Hollow Lane, Tarpon Springs, FL 388) directly following burial services on Tuesday afternoon. Food and drinks will be served. Please let us know if you’re able to attend by calling or texting Kristi Stogsdill at 727-207-8997.
