Karle L. Snyder's Obituary
Karle L. Snyder Karle Lenker Snyder passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023, age 92, at his home in Trinity Florida and kept his wonderful sense of humor, pleasant disposition, and caring nature to the end. Karle was born on July 1, 1930, in Millersburg, Pennsylvania to Florence and John Snyder.
In his youth, Karle (known as Palsy to family) worked hard delivering coal, ice (he was one of the few that could carry a 100-pound block of ice!), and the daily newspaper. He would regale with stories of his early morning deliveries of nine different newspapers that required pushing a wheelbarrow full of papers up the steepest hill in Millersburg with the help of his father and brother. Giving ice chips to children along his delivery route was a much more enjoyable task.
Karle was the last of five children to leave the Millersburg home when he joined the Army and served in the Korean War. He was a recipient of the GI Bill and went on to attend Penn State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Karle was an AVID Nitanny Lion's fan and his love of Penn State was second only to the love of his life, Ruth Pannebaker whom he met at college.
Karle was a strong family man, devout Christian, and dedicated worker. He had a 37+ year distinguished public service career with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). He received multiple awards during his career such as the Civil Servant of the Year Award, Superior Achievement Award, and Distinguished Career Service Award. Karle was the FHWA Vermont Division Administrator when he retired in 1992. He and Ruth, his wife of 68 years, moved to sunny Florida in 2000 where they enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and bridge with their many friends in Heritage Springs. One of Karle's greatest joys was spending time with their 11 grandchildren whom he adored.
Karle was always involved in community activities: Lions Club, coaching baseball, teaching Sunday School and in retirement, he was on various committees in Heritage Springs including using his engineering skills supervising the paving of the Heritage Springs roads. Karle will be remembered for the tremendous contributions he made throughout his life and the impact he made on the lives of many.
Karle's family strength led to a proud legacy of his children and grandchildren. His love and values are carried on through his family: wife Ruth, four children and spouses: Melinda Agee (Douglas), Duane Snyder (Sandy), Karla Petty (Chuck), Florence Warnock (John). His adoring grandchildren who will always remember their grandpa's favorite phrase "Whatever your little heart desires": Brianna Agee (Shaun), Megan Peters (Kevin), Christopher Petty (deceased), Emily Warnock (Will Dueease), Travis Snyder, Katelyn Snyder, Natalie Agee, Alex Petty, Samuel Warnock, Amanda Snyder, and Olivia Warnock.
