We were so lucky to have known Karen. We met Karen and became friends, as extended family. I guess you can say we came as a packaged deal with her son-in-law, John, who she loved as her own child. Over the years of celebrations, sorrows, and conversations with Karen, we felt chosen as friends and loved by her.
Along with the many other descriptions of Karen, enthusiastic is my first thought. Karen would make me laugh when she would excitedly describe what she learned about a new task or project, and then turn around and do it, perfectly or better, mind you. She showed passion in the many projects she did, whether it was putting up or taking down drywall, replacing tile, planting a tree or felling it. No project was too big for her to get it done. Her eagerness made me want to do more and expect excellence of myself.
Karen’s greatest passion was, of course, her family. She was the model of the loving mother and grandmother and the ideal responsible wife and daughter. She deeply cared and protected her family and made sure things were done right. Her heart was big and her love and kindness surrounded her family and her extended family. I am so grateful for Karen’s fierce support and nurturing. Karen’s legacy will carry on for generations because the same traits are seen in her children, Sharon and Jennifer, and her grandchildren, Kristin and Karlie.
Words cannot express how sorry we are for the loss of your mother. Mark and I will deeply miss Karen.
