Kalliope Morikis' Obituary
Kalliope “Kay” Morikis passed peacefully on April 4, 2016 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle following a cardiac event. Born in Chios, Greece to Nicholas and Ioulia Stefanou on June 4, 1932, Kalliope was the eldest sibling to John Stefanou and George Stefanou (dec. 1942). On March 2, 1952, Kalliope married Demetrios Morikis, her wonderful husband of 64 years. Together they had three children, Ipatia, Nicholas (dec. 2006) and Julia. Kalliope immigrated to the United States with her father Dr. Nicholas Stefanou and children to join her husband Demetrios in New York, New York after he won first place for the second consecutive year at the Chef Olympics of the New York Worlds Fair. An ambitious entrepreneur, she trained in Manhattan to become a hair stylist and graduated first in her class while expecting her third child. Kalliope worked exclusively on Park Avenue with the aspiration of owning her own business. One year later, they purchased their first house in Seaford, New York. After working in Manhattan, Kalliope opened her first business, Kay’s Beauty Salon located in Seaford, New York and owned and operated it for 30 years. A successful business woman, she also maintained several real-estate investments before retiring with her husband to New Port Richey, Florida in 1989 from Massapequa Park, New York. Kalliope is survived by her beloved husband Demetrios Morikis; two daughters Dr. Ipatia "Tia" Magnus and Julia Morse; brother John Stefanou; grandchildren Nick Morikis, Dr. Kalliope Morikis, Theo Moustakopoulos and Dr. Paula Bamis; great-grandchildren Olivia Morikis-Ramm, Alexander Morikis-Ramm, Kayla Morikis, Alexis Morikis and Alana Maria; as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Kalliope will be missed by relatives, friends and by all who have had the honor of knowing this vibrant and brilliant woman. All funeral services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church located at 9426 Little Road New Port Richey, Florida 34654. The viewing will take place on Thursday April 7, 2016 from 5-7 pm. The funeral will take place on Friday April 8, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Kalliope will be laid to rest at Trinity Memorial Gardens next to her son Nicholas Morikis on Friday April 8, 2016.
