June Strohman's Obituary
June “Junebug” Strohman
January 6, 1943 – July 10, 2026
June “Junebug” Strohman, born January 6, 1943, in Lewes, Delaware, passed away on July 10, 2026. She leaves behind a family who adored her, friends and neighbors who will miss her humor, and a backyard full of animals who will miss her daily feedings.
June was the daughter of Thomas E. Dirks and Lillian Dirks. She was raised in Lewes as part of the Dirks family alongside her brothers and sisters: Timothy K. Dirks, Thomas Dirks, Michael Dirks, Hugo Dirks, Peter Dirks, Larry Dirks, Isabella Mayfield, Rena Johnson, and Clara Ebert. Her Lewes roots remained part of who she was throughout her life—warm, direct, generous, and never short on personality.
June was the beloved wife of Bernard “Jim” Strohman; devoted mother of Torrie Mitchell, Keith Strohman and Tamara Daniels; grandmother of Ashlee Miller, James Miller, Andy Strohman, and Cooper Strohman; and great-grandmother of Aiden McGuire, Ashlynn Bowling, Ashton Young, and Meleah Miller. Her family was always the center of her world.
After attending culinary school, June worked as a chef and restaurant operator before marrying her husband and building a life and family in Ohio. Her culinary background served her well, not only professionally, but also at home, where food was one of the many ways she showed love. She was fiercely loyal, wonderfully funny, deeply empathetic, and capable of delivering unconditional love with just enough commentary to make sure everyone stayed humble.
Known affectionately as “Junebug” to family, friends, and neighbors, June had a way of making ordinary days memorable. She never wanted to miss a game, event, or family milestone. She loved raising children, taking well-earned naps, working through word search puzzles, and feeding the many creatures that found their way to her yard—every bird, raccoon, stray cat, and turtle that would visit.
In her later years, it became notable that nearly every doctor described June as a “jovial woman who was in good spirits.” Her family was not surprised. Junebug carried humor with her everywhere, even when life was difficult. She was quick to laugh, quick to care, and quick to make people feel like they mattered.
June’s daily rhythm was simple, familiar, and entirely hers. If it was 5:00 p.m., you could set your watch by it: Junebug was on her swing in the backyard, enjoying a glass of wine and presiding over her kingdom.
Her family will remember her with gratitude, laughter, and love—as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, animal feeder, puzzle solver, nap enthusiast, and the one and only Junebug.
In her honor, raise a glass at 5:00 p.m., feed the birds, finish the puzzle, and laugh loudly enough for Junebug to hear it.
