Josephine Poppy Smith's Obituary
Our mother, Josephine P. Smith, age 94, born in New York City, NY on May 30, 1929. She was a 40 year resident of Tampa, Florida, and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 11, 2023. At the age of 4, her family moved to Los Angeles where she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and she then moved back to New York City. She lived many years in Fort Wayne, Indiana while raising her children, before moving to Florida in the early 80’s.
Jo, was a proud American. She worked hard throughout her life and believed in the American dream. She had many occupations during her life, but really relished her time shuttling cars for auto transport companies. She loved spending time with family and friends. In her younger years she enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling. She had a lifelong passion for fishing.
Jo was the eldest of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph S. and Anna Rothchild and her siblings Allan and Robert Rothchild. She is survived by her brother William, her daughter Carolyn Smith Martinez, son Kevin S. Smith, three granddaughters and one grandson.
She will be missed, but always remembered.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 19 from 2-3pm, followed by a service and burial at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
