Joseph Zygarowski's Obituary
Sgt. Joseph Zygarowski, 24 years of age was killed in a training exercise at Fort Bragg, NC on Wednesday, April 19,2023.
Joseph was born on May 19, 1998, in Clearwater, Florida to Jodi and Robert Zygarowski. He was the youngest of three children. Joseph was educated at Cypress Elementary and River Ridge Middle and High School. He was a proud member of the River Ridge ROTC program.
Joseph enlisted into the U.S. Army in 2018, doing Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC and then Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, VA. He then went on to to his first duty station with the 531st Hospital Center at Fort Campbell, KY, and later assigned to 149th Seaport Operations company at Fort Eustis, VA. Joseph also completed the Wheeled Vehicle Recovery Operations course in March of 2023, certifying him to do recovery operations and work with his favorite vehicle the M984A2 Wrecker. He was awarded Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and the Army Service Medal.
Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina Flags at state facilities to half-staff beginning immediately on April 24,2023 until sunset Wednesday April 26, 2023, in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. Joseph Zygarowski.
Governor Cooper stated “Our hearts are with the family, friends and loved ones of Sgt. Joseph Zygarowski, who lost his life at Fort Bragg. Today and every day, we are grateful for the selfless service our soldiers give to our country.”
Joseph married Emily Augustyniak while stationed at Fort Cambell, KY. They have been married for 3years.
Joseph was predeceased by his loving grandparents James and Jean Wixtead.
Surviving Joseph are his wife Emily Zygarowski, their 3 dogs Ranger, Bandit and Shadow, parents Jodi (Jack) Przytulski, father Robert Zygarowski, brother Robert J. Zygarowski(Katie) , sister Amanda Zygarowski and grandmother Monica Wixtead.
Visitation at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Trinity, FL on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 5PM to 7PM.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Trinity, FL, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:30AM.
No flowers please. Donations may be made to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, Inc.
