Joseph D. Duggan's Obituary
Joseph D Duggan, Devoted Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away peacefully on April 9, 2020 with his wife at his side.
Joe was born on May 28, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Margaret Duggan. He was the 4th child and the Baby Brother to 3 doting sisters; Margaret, Mary, and Katie. Joe has 3 children, Joseph, Anthony, and Lisa; 2 grandchildren, Alice and AJ, and 1 step granddaughter, Haileyrose. It came as no surprise that every child that met Joe was drawn to his gentle heart, and his playful smile, affectionately known as Big Joe by his little comrades.
At the tender age of 3, Joe lost his Dad, his Mom being the strong Irish woman she was went to work and raised 4 wonderful, loving children. Of course the little guy was always getting into mischief, breaking bones in-cluding his back at 14, but that did not stop him from putting on his back brace and walking his sister Mary down the aisle on her Wedding Day.
His formal Education may not have met those of today’s standards, but Joe followed his heart and as a young boy began to work with his hands, and he became quite skilled in many areas of construction. His top quality was his patience, he would calmly work at fixing something until he suc-ceeded, he never gave up. He always encouraged young people to get that college degree, but also learn how to work with their hands. He went on to become a Stationary Engineer Electric for the DEP in NYC. He retired after 25 years of service. His friends and family all knew that if you needed something fixed or even a complete home renovation, simply say 1-800 CALL JOE, and he would answer your call.
Joe had great respect for those who served our country and those who put their lives on the line everyday. He had several good friends and working buddies in the FDNY and NYPD with whom he had stayed close to his en-tire life.
On November 29,1985 Joe started a new chapter in his life the day he mar-ried his soul mate, Kathleen A Logue. Kathy and Joe were partners in love, life and work, going into several businesses together working side by side, hand in hand, heart to heart in every new venture.
Joe and Kathy moved to Heritage Springs, Fl in 2005, to be closer to fami-ly, he formed a close bond to both of his in-laws, Mary and John Logue and was able to visit his sisters and their families on the East coast of FL. He made many new friends and was always willing to help his neighbors in any way he could. In his final years he loved sitting on the lanai enjoying the wildlife and the beauty that nature provided. The Fighting Irishman gave it a good fight, but apparently God needed a few things fixed and He called on the best man he could find to get the job done!
Joe will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love him. Joe will be Cremated on April 15, 2020 at Trinity Memorial Gardens. We will celebrate his life when it is safe for his family to travel. Please feel free to make a donation in Joseph’s name to Gulfside Hospice & Pasco Palliative Care at 2061 Collier Parkway, Land O’Lakes, FL 34683, 800-561-4883. www.gulfside.org
