José Eduardo Cruz-Laynes' Obituary
José Eduardo Cruz-Laynes passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, just two days before his birthday. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life reflected resilience, intelligence, and quiet strength.
Born in Lima, Peru, José pursued his education with determination, studying statistics before continuing abroad. He earned his Associate’s degree from Empire State College and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1984, working hard to achieve his goals.
José lived and worked in Peru, Italy, and the United States, embracing each chapter with courage. Fluent in Spanish, English, and Italian, he valued learning and connection across cultures. Throughout his life, he held many roles, including construction supervisor, teacher, machinist, and technician, and later became self-employed in refrigeration and air conditioning. He was a true problem solver, skilled both intellectually and practically.
He was a devoted husband, sharing 44 years of marriage with his loving wife, Carol Cruz-Laynes. A faithful Catholic, José attended church weekly and found joy in simple routines, including eating fresh fruits and vegetables and caring for his health. He enjoyed traveling, soccer, gardening, and reading the Bible.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Cruz-Laynes; his daughter, Cheryl Wright and her husband, Jeff Wright; and his beloved grandson, Lucas Wright. He is also survived by his sisters, Flora Cruz and Margarita Cruz; his brothers, Alberto Jaramillo, Alosio Cruz, and Dario Cruz; and his beloved nephew, Oscar Vizcarra, who was like a brother to him, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Above all, José was a family man whose legacy lives on through those who love him.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 PM at Trinity Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 12609 Memorial Dr., Trinity, FL. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor his memory.
