John Bjournson Berg Jr's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Bjournson Berg Jr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. John was born on March 9, 1951, in Kearny, New Jersey and peacefully departed this life on October 17, 2024, in Tarpon Springs, Florida, at the age of 73.
John was the cherished son of the late John B Berg Sr and Helen French Berg. He was preceded in death by his son, John B Berg III, his sister Letishia Berg Kohout, his nephews Richie Kohout and Nicolas Principato. Despite these profound losses, John remained a pillar of strength and humor for his family and those who knew him.
On April 29, 1972, John married the love of his life, Maureen McDonald Berg; his beloved daughters, Sandra Berg Taylor and Dana Berg Garner; his daughter-in-law, Melinda Hanes Berg; and his sons-in-law, James Taylor and William Garne. He leaves behind his siblings, Jacqueline Berg Principato, Dianne Berg, and Phillip Berg, who will forever cherish their memories with him. John was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren; John B Berg IV, Riley Taylor, Jamie Berg, Aiden Smith, JT Taylor, Camden Smith, Zac Taylor, and Mason Garner, all of whom were the light of his life. John was an Uncle to nieces Amanda & Kim and nephews Jimmy, Jason and Joey.
John's career was marked by dedication and excellence. He spent 25 years as an employee of Royal Insurance, first in New York City, and later in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served as the manager of the Life Insurance Programming Department. After moving to Florida, he worked for Transamerica as a Senior Programmer in the IT department until his retirement. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated and innovative professional.
Outside of work, John had a passion for life that was evident in his hobbies and interests. He enjoyed setting up and running his HO trains in his garage, a pastime that brought him immense joy. Woodworking was another of his beloved hobbies, and he took pride in crafting various pieces of furniture and plaques for his family members. John was known for his quick wit and humor; he was always ready with a joke or wisecrack, bringing smiles and laughter to those around him.
A public funeral service will be held to celebrate John's life on November 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Memorial Gardens. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by John are invited to attend and honor his memory together.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to Tunnel to Towers at T2T.org or St Jude Children's Hospital. These causes were close to John's heart, and contributions will continue his legacy of kindness and generosity.
John Bjournson Berg Jr touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Rest in peace, dear John, your legacy of love and laughter will live on in our hearts.
