Joan Higbea's Obituary
Joan Marie Schramm Higbea, age 75 passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Odessa, FL on Thursday, March 17, 2016.
Joan was born on March 19, 1940 in Fort Jennings, OH to the late William J. and Agnes M. (Dickman) Schramm. She was widowed at the age of 31 and raised 3 boys and a girl on her own in Virginia Beach, VA. She was a popular real estate agent in the 1970’s, a bookkeeper, and a superior seamstress. Her moniker, “Custom Sewn by Joan”, adorned the clothes that she made for herself, her family, and others. She loved to cruise and travel anywhere with her life partner George Guillot of Norfolk, Va. Joan was loved by many and was selfless in giving to others in need and was quick to give a smile and a laugh.
Joan is survived by life partner, George Guillot of Norfolk, VA ; son Robert (Bobby) Higbea and his wife Beverly of Odessa, FL; daughter Theresa Carter of Norfolk, VA and her 2 sons in Rhode Island; son Donald (Buddy) Higbea of Oneonta, Al; his 2 sons, 2 daughters and their children; William Higbea and his wife Wendie of Suffolk, VA and their 3 children; two sisters, Patricia Lugibihl and her husband Oliver of Blufton, OH; Ruth Calvelage and her husband Fred of Delphos, OH; extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan was preceded in death by six brothers; Henry, Ralph, Bill, Paul, Alfred, and Art Schramm; and sister Betty Bonifas.
