James Ahern's Obituary
James “Jim” Ahern, 93, of Holiday, Florida, passed away on June 19, 2025. He was born in Camden, New Jersey, on November 12, 1931, to James and Dorothy Ahern. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951, then went on to earn a degree in photography. After leaving Camden, he lived for a time in Hainesport, New Jersey before permanently settling in Holiday, Florida in September 1981. He earned Golden Belts for boxing in Camden and Philadelphia and continued his boxing career during his time in the Army.
After serving in the Army, Jim worked for the United States Postal Service for 15 years while he nurtured what began as a hobby and became his permanent career, photography. Jim had started developing his photography and darkroom techniques during his school days under the instruction of his father. He eventually opened Lenscraft Studio in Mount Holly, New Jersey, focusing on portraits and weddings. He even took weekly Coast Guard graduation pictures in Cape May, New Jersey. After moving to Florida, he became a member of the Suncoast Camera Club in Clearwater, Florida.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness and his pleasant personality. He was always smiling and developed easy friendships with anyone he met. He is survived by his spouse, Audrey Ahern; his children James (Terri) Ahern, Diane (Barry) Haines, Maryann (Lyman) Bozarth; and Joann Sewekow; his grandchildren Kyle (Rebecca) Ahern, Lyman (Gina) Bozarth, Melissa (Allan) Morgan, Joshua, and Daniel; and his great-grandchildren
Reagam, Adalyn, Cole, Bryann, Henley, and Beau.
Charitable donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the AccentCare Hospital, Wesley Chapel campus.
