I remember coming to The MED in 1995 as a nurse working in High Risk OB. It wasn't long until I met the great, Ms. Smart! She wore a white uniform and was coming to check on the area, get the census and staffing patern. We grew so fond of each other that every now and then I would slip up and call her Jackie! I was there for the delivery of 2 of her grands and she trusted me to take care of her child. Wow! So many memories of an awesome example of leadership could be found in Ms. Smart. Her leadership was priceless at The MED, Regional Medical Center at Memphis and Regional One Health (one hospital)! Rest well Ms. Smart, you have done well ma'am. 😘👏🏾

I did not know Ms. Smartt personally, but I feel like I know her because my sister, Elixa Ward, often spoke so highly of her. Ms. Smartt and she worked together for many years. Just from the way my sister spoke of her, I could tell that Ms. Smartt was a beautiful person inside and out. Besides being very fair as a supervisor, she was an extremely thoughtful, caring, kindhearted person. Her loss is felt all the way to TX. She truly left her footprints in this world. Our condolences to all that knew and loved her. Our prayer is that God comforts you as only He can in Jesus' name.
The first time I saw Ms. Smartt, I was a GN. I saw her walking down the hall with her nursing hat on . I thought how regal to say the least. I always admired her....Her style, Her calmness and her smile! She made me proud to be a R.N., Just by the way she “carried” herself. She made an impression on my life! God Bless her and her family.
Ms. Smartt,
I simply want to say thank you! From the moment I arrived your kind words kept me grounded and assured that everything would be alright! I entered ROH with a difficult task of leading the ED when it was "rough" and you continued to guide my steps and tell me we gonna take care of you sweetheart. Baby boy I promise you it's going to work out. Your the reason for the calming approach. You had a mothering way of making everyone see the light and the fact that we were going to get through the storm. Again, I thank and honor you as you will be truly missed, but never forgotten!
I met Ms Jackie when she was one of the Care Managers. She told me when I first onboarded at Regional One Health, "Keep going, you're doing a great job!" She will be missed! Prayers for the family.
Mrs. Smartt was like a second mother to her externs. She kept us in line like a mother hen. She defended us also when we were in trouble. Most of all she made you feel loved. I know because I was one of her externs. I felt the she had for us and for her work. Mrs Smartt was more then my supervisor she was my friend and second mother.
Jackie Smartt was a joy to work with. She was a good RN, & could brighten anyone's day with her smile & compassion. My prayers for comfort for her loved ones.
Jackie was a lovely sweet soul. She always had a smile on her face - even in the middle of the night. She really was the epitome of a professional nurse.
Mrs. Jackie, From the time that I entered the doors of The MED , you have always been a great mentor and Nursing Supervisor. You always greeted people with that beautiful smile and talks of your girls and those blessed grandchildren. When I became Nurse Supervisor, I felt like the most Blessed girl in the world to be working beside some of the most knowledgeable and educated seasoned Nurses in the old MED. It was truly an honor to work with you. When I decided to go back to school and was ready to take my test, I was working a lot of hours. I didn’t tell her that I was short with n funds to take my boards, but she left an envelope at my desk and she was gone home. I tried to give that envelope back and she said it was my graduation present. Well, I passed boards and I hope that I made you proud. Rest in love and know that you made such a big difference in my life and your legacy will live on in the hearts of us that were Blessed to cross paths with you Angel. Rest in eternal peace- Well Done💕💕
