Hilda M Arroyo's Obituary
Hilda Arroyo, 82, of Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on September 3, 2024. She was born on November 8, 1941, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Francisco and Amalia Rivera. When she was 15 years old, her family relocated to New York City, where Hilda took a job as a seamstress in the garment district to support herself and her three younger brothers. She married her husband Mario Arroyo in 1965, and the couple started a family together with their three children. Lisette, Cynthia, and Mario Jr. The family moved around New York City, from Manhattan to the Bronx to Yonkers, before ultimately settling in Florida in 1988.
Hilda will always be remembered for her kind heart and generous spirit. She got along with everyone she encountered. Not one to stand still, she was always doing something of interest. She loved to help people and animals and spent time doing volunteer work for causes close to her heart. She was a strong woman, who was not afraid to speak her mind. An expert seamstress, she loved to sew, even in her spare time. She also enjoyed playing bingo and taking vacations to Las Vegas with her husband. More than anything else, she loved spending time with her husband and children.
Hilda is survived by Mario, her husband of 63 years and a retired sergeant with the NYPD, and by her children Lisette, Cynthia, and Mario Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
