Hilary McGinty's Obituary
Hilary Leigh Efman McGinty was born on September 8, 1973 to Linda Poster Efman and Martin Efman. She was raised in the John Hughes, big hair band era of the 80s in Long Island, New York. She flew south to Tampa, Florida for college and once she felt that sunshine all year and found her optimal tan, she made it her home for good. She was the glue amongst her family and friends as problem solver, planner & birthdays reminder. Her knowledge and memory for sports statistics, movie trivia, and soap opera history is unrivaled and put Google’s capabilities to shame. A most admired quality about her was her authenticity and honesty. If you wanted her true opinion, or even if you didn’t, she gave it to you; complemented by her signature wit or sarcastic quip. Always so beautiful and cool, but her most remarkable quality was how she loved with her whole heart. If you were lucky enough to be in her circle, you were loved beyond measure and she was your greatest supporter. Hilary was dazzling, vibrant, and unerringly made the best of life’s unpredictability.
Hilary was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by those who gave her the most joy and love her endlessly. Her husband, John McGinty, who was her best friend and the love of her life. Her two stepchildren, Maddie & Ryan. Maddie, who she always thought could reach the stars and Ryan, with whom she shared an instant kinship. Her parents, Marty and Alison, who simultaneously held her as adored first daughter and trusted life advisor. Her brother Mark and sister-in-law Shelby, her niece and nephew - Lyla & Jonah. Hilary loved watching Mark be a father, the ensuing hijinks, and could not get enough pictures of those kids! Her sister Lauren, who she hugged from birth through adulthood and held her close no matter where either lived. Her posse, with whom she shared all her life in Tampa. And her pups, Sam and Annie, who gave her a zillion kisses.
