In Loving Memory of Haydée Sánchez de Hernández
May 27, 1935 - March 11, 2024
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Haydée Sánchez de Hernández, who departed peacefully on March 11, 2024, at the age of 88. Born in Bejucal, La Habana, Cuba to Ydelia Perez and José Fidel Sánchez, Haydée was the eldest of five children and a beacon of love, resilience, and faith to her family.
Haydée’s life was a portrayal of her boundless love. In 1954, she married Eliecer (Elio) Hernández, a relationship that would span nearly 64 years. Together, they immigrated in 1967 to Tampa, Florida in pursuit of a brighter future for their three children. Throughout her journey and until the end of her life, Haydée never lost track of her north stars – family, and an unwavering belief in the Holy Spirit.
As our matriarch, Haydée's heart was a fountain of compassion, ready to envelop her loved ones in comfort and her characteristic kindness at any moment. Her home was our refuge and joy, always filled with laughter and the aromas of traditional Cuban cuisine. Haydée’s artistic talents extended beyond her occupation as a seamstress to include many applications in the creative arts. She taught us how to cook, sew, paint, sketch, and other expressions of her rich life journey, some of which she practiced until her final days.
Haydée is survived by her cherished children, Aymée Hernández, Niurka Cleveland (Joel), and José Hernández (Susan); her dear sister; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Haydés’s spirit will forever inspire and guide her family.
As we bid her farewell, we invite all those whose lives Haydée touched to join us in celebrating her remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, contributions to her favorite charity would honor her legacy. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
