Harryhar Persaud's Obituary
In the early afternoon of July 29th 2019 Harryhar Andrew Persaud passed away peacefully at his home in Tampa at the age of 87 years.
Andrew was born in Georgetown, Guyana to Munni and Sumintra Persaud. He was the third child of nine children.
Andrew attended Kingston Methodist Secondary School, joined the Sea Scouts and developed a love for the sea. He continued his education at Queen's College becoming a member of the Cadet Corps. Upon completing his General Certificate of Education he signed on as an apprentice navigator on the three mast schooner " Van Slythman". The vessel traded within the Caribbean Islands and lead to his interest in marine shipping. When the shipping company went bankrupt he traveled to England and worked for 3 yrs at various jobs. Upon returning to Guyana he took a position as a Tally Clerk at Booker Line. His hard work, attention to detail and organizational skills were rewarded by management who furthered his career by making him the shipping manager. In that position he gained the respect of the principals in London and earned a promotion to the board of directors.
Andrew married Barbara Cheddie in 1958 and together they raised two wonderful children Andy and Di. Andrew loved working in the garden and was skilled at creating hybrid roses. Dominoes, cooking, fishing, picnicking and playing the lottery were a few of his other passions.
Andrew and Barbara loved socializing, including throwing and attending parties. He had a dry, subtle and cutting sense of humor. He also had a kind heart and would do anything for his family and friends.
He was loved by all of his many family members and friends.
Andrew was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara. He is survived by his two children Andy and Di and his son-in-law Dan.
